Everything You Need to Know About Issue Templates and Insight Integration

Issue Templates is an app that allows creating templates for various types of issues. These templates will automatically populate fields with predefined values which can be then adjusted by users to match their current needs.

Users can benefit from templates in copying fields, attachments, but also sub-tasks or variables. Some templates use a copy post-function to help your team create many new issues in just a few minutes.

Issue Templates features functionalities like Autocomplete (that fills values from the template into a newly created issue), Copy Values (that copies values from the template to the issue), or Copy Sub-tasks (that copies sub-tasks from templates to issues).

These features make the app into a tool that is essential for teams that need to create many similar issues.

So how does Insight enter the picture?

Insight is an asset management app that provides CMDB (Object Management) for ITSM and many other areas.

The app includes a number of interesting features, for example, import and automation capabilities, several custom field options, validators and post-functions. It also provides its users with dashboard gadgets and a smart built-in reporting feature for convenience.

IT teams use Insight to track and manage assets like computers, phones, servers, accessories, and many others.

The app is perfect for software teams as well, who can use Insight to manage release information such as software packages, versions, or components. Insight also comes in handy to business teams that can benefit from the app when managing the onboarding processes of employees, marketing activities, financial information, legal assets, and many others.

So here’s the question: Is it possible to create issue templates that contain information about assets? Thanks to our integration, that is now an option for users who have installed both Issue Templates and Insight.

Issue Templates + Insight

The integration between Issue Templates and Insight is based on a feature that allows users to create issues from templates together with assets.

To do that, users need to set up and run Insight first. The next step is placing all Insight custom fields on the screen where they are needed. Users can add these fields to the Autocomplete Scope for their templates.

It’s enough to select a number of assets from the custom fields. A template needs to include values in these fields to for Autocomplete to work. Now all that’s left is picking up the templates that contain custom fields from Insight. You can see that the Autocomplete will work when a field’s background changes the color to green.

At the moment, Issue Templates support single, multi-select, and single reference type of fields. We working on bringing that functionality to the Customer Portal.
